Emptied Cup – March 31, 2016
Today’s Translation: The Message | Weekly Video: The New Covenant (Luke 22:14-23)
“He did the same with the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant written in my blood, blood poured out for you.'” – Luke 22:20 (MSG)
Live It Out!
When Jesus took the cup, He said “this is my blood, shed for you.” Every ounce of the Savior’s blood was poured out for us on that first Good Friday. Jesus, the perfect Son of God, emptied Himself for us on the cross. But the wine also represents the sweetness of the resurrection. When Jesus said, “It is finished,” the story did not end. On the third day, He rose from the dead and once again walked with His disciples. Let us, on this day, allow ourselves to be emptied of our anger, our bitterness and our hatred of our fellow man. Jesus didn’t just die for His friends, He died for us all. And He sent His Spirit to empower us to continue His work here on earth. When we drink the wine (or juice), let’s prepare our hearts to do His work together.
