A Response to the Orlando Shooting and Other Acts of Violence #PrayForOrlando

Early this morning, there was a mass shooting in an Orlando nightclub. Also in the news this week, the murder of a 22 year old singer as she was signing autographs, the rape of an unconscious college student, a brawl between European soccer fans that left dozens injured and the bombing of a city in Syria just hours after they had received food aid for the first time in four years.

Friends, I don’t know about you, but I am tired of waking up to these types of notifications on my phone seemingly every morning. My heart is broken. Not just for those who have lost their lives but also for those who have lost their way. I don’t care if you are white or black, Christian or Muslim, gay or straight, male or female – whatever slight or injustice you may feel, an act of violence against yourself or others is never the correct response.

For anyone who considers themselves a person of faith (any faith), it is times like these when people look to us for guidance. Our response should be out of love not hate. If you believe in the power of prayer, then join me in praying for peace in our time. Join me in praying that the love of our Heavenly Father can permeate every heart the way even a trickle of water can cut through the hardest of stone.

NOTE: This took place on June 12, 2016 (not June 11 as stated in the video)
