Live It Out!

To demonstrate what it means to be poor in spirit, Jesus shares a story of two men and how they viewed themselves in relation to God. Throughout Jesus’ public ministry, He often criticized the religious leaders of His day for their hypocrisy. Basically, they had become so enamored with personal holiness (i.e. moral behavior) that they had lost sight of what truly mattered (having a pure heart). As followers of Christ, our confidence should be in Him rather than in ourselves.
