Beyond Comfort Zone – May 4, 2016

Today’s Translation: Holman Christian Standard Bible | Weekly Video: Us vs. Them: Part 1 (Acts 10:1-23)

“The next day, as they were traveling and nearing the city, Peter went up to pray on the housetop about noon. Then he became hungry and wanted to eat, but while they were preparing something, he went into a visionary state. He saw heaven opened and an object that resembled a large sheet coming down, being lowered by its four corners to the earth. In it were all the four-footed animals and reptiles of the earth, and the birds of the sky. Then a voice said to him, ‘Get up, Peter; kill and eat!’ ‘No, Lord!’ Peter said. ‘For I have never eaten anything common and ritually unclean!'” – Acts 10:9-14 (HCSB)

Live It Out!

Often, when God answers our prayer, His answer requires us to move beyond our comfort zone. Peter didn’t know it at the time, but God was preparing him to take the Gospel to the household of Cornelius, who would become one of the first Gentiles to join the Church. For Jewish believers, this would have been a major paradigm shift in what it meant to be a Christian. Christianity isn’t just the continuation of Judaism; it is a movement that can inspire people from every race, every tribe and every nation to live for something bigger than any of us can imagine.
