The Samaritans? – April 13, 2016

Today’s Translation: Holman Christian Standard Bible | Weekly Video: Spirit of Restoration (Acts 8:9-25)

“When the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had welcomed God’s message, they sent Peter and John to them. After they went down there, they prayed for them, so the Samaritans might receive the Holy Spirit. For He had not yet come down on any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.” – Acts 8:14-17 (HCSB)

Live It Out!

The Jews and the Samaritans did not often associate with each other. Had God not delayed the outpouring of the Holy Spirit to the Samaritans, there would have been two churches instead of one. With Peter and John meeting with and praying over the Samaritan converts, they all became brothers and sisters in Christ. With our identities secured in Christ, all other defining characteristics become secondary. We are all baptized into one family.
