My Brother’s Keeper – September 22, 2016

Today’s Translation: The Message | Weekly Video: Cain & Abel (Genesis 4:1-16)

“Cain had words with his brother. They were out in the field; Cain came at Abel his brother and killed him. God said to Cain, ‘Where is Abel your brother?’ He said, ‘How should I know? Am I his babysitter?'” – Genesis 4:8-9 (MSG)

Live It Out!

At the center of every sinful action is an inherent selfishness. Cain couldn’t handle his brother having favor over him in God’s eyes. Instead of looking inward, he projected his frustration onto Abel. Cain killed his own brother without remorse. This is what sin does to us – turn brother against brother. The goal of the enemy is to separate and divide us while the Holy Spirit seeks to bring us together in common purpose and love. We are bound to each other. We are our brother’s (or sister’s) keeper. Let’s commit to pushing each other closer to our Heavenly Father.
